Carnival of Junk is the ninth episode of the fifth series (8th in the Welsh dub of the fourth series).
Plot[]
Sarah and James are playing football in their garden, but are interrupted by a rattle coming from a white van. They then head off to find Sam.
At the Fire Station, Sam is using the Jaws of Life to retreive Elvis' hand out of a railing after a failed practice drill. Sarah and James arrive, the latter questioning about the device, and asks Sam if he wants to play football with them. However, Station Officer Steele suggests to the twins to maybe do something useful.
At the Flood's House, Mike and Helen are excited to be going on holiday to Jamaica to see the carnival. Mandy comes down, covered in red spots. Helen tells Mandy she has chicken pox and must stay home for at least a fortnight, meaning that their family holiday will have to be cancelled. Sarah and James arrive a little while later and ask Mandy if she would like to come with them. Mandy sadly says she can't, and tearfully tells them that because of her chicken pox she can't go to the Carnival in Jamaica. After hearing Mandy crying, Mike and Helen decide that if they can't take Mandy to the carnival, they can just take the carnival to Pontypandy. Mike calls up Bella asking if she knows any carribean recipes, and much to their delight, she does.
Sarah and James go down the street and go down an alleyway. James bumps into a pile of rubbish dumped by the white van earlier. The two decide to start a "Keep Pontypandy Tidy" campaign, but soon, a large disused boiler falls down onto James' leg, and he can't get out. Sarah goes off to Bella's for help, while Dusty keeps James company.
Back at the floods, Mandy hears Mike and Helen talking and asks them what they're doing with a large palmtree. Helen goes off to collect the balloons from Trevor, while Mike counts what they currently have. He has everything needed for the carnival, but now needs to find some music. At Bella's, Norman and Trevor are inflating balloons while Bella is making carribean rice. Sarah comes in the fire exit and asks to use her phone.
At the Fire Station, Penny comes in to reveal that James is stuck under a boiler, and they take off with Jupiter and Venus. They reach to the alleyway and carry the equipment because of it being too narrow. With the Jaws of Life, they retreieve James' leg from the boiler. Sam warns James to stay clear from rubbish tips in the future. Mike then arrives and notices the tip, and will ring the refuse department about it. He then eyes the boiler, and tells Sam that's what he needs, and tells him about what's going on.
Back at the Fire Station, Helen bandages James' hand. He and Sarah then hear some banging going on in Sam's shed and Helen tells the twins about what's going on, and not to tell Mandy.
Mandy is in her room, sadly watching TV, while she is interrupted by a horn sound. She looks out of the window and sees Jupiter coverwed in balloons and bunting. Mandy is amazed, and is soon followed up with a decorated Venus and Tom's 4x4, which has Mike on a trailer playing jamaican music using the boiler. Helen reveals that since they couldn't go on holiday to see the Carnival, she and Mike decided to bring the Carnival to her.
Station Officer Steele tells everyone that the carnival is now commencing, and everyone has fun while Helen and Mandy dance in her room.

- This is the first time Mandy is wearing her pyjamas.
- Norman’s mask from Dilys' Forgetful Day is shown on Mandy’s wall.
- At the final scene, Station Officer Steele is sitting in the middle of Jupiter.
- This episode and Neighbourhood Watchout are the only two episodes of series 5 where Norman doesn't have any dialogue.
- Amongst the rubbish in the rubbish tip, the pram from the "Joshua Jones" episode "Spook" can be seen, as well as Dilys' burnt ironing board from The Great Inventor.
- The white van at the beginning is Nick's van from "Star Hill Ponies".
- This is the only time where Mandy cries.
Goofs[]
- After the rescue, it was unfair of Fireman Sam to just warn James about the rubbish tip, as Sarah and James were both together at the time of the accident.
- This episode is incorrectly listed as Series 4 Episode 5 on Amazon Prime.
