Twitchers in Trouble is the eighth episode of the fifth series (seventh episode of the fourth series in Welsh).

Plot[]

Station Officer Steele instructs the firefighters about how due to the unexpectingly hot summer Pontypandy has had, the grass is dry enough to start a fire, and tells Sam and the others that they're on red alert.

Sarah and James are spending the day with Tom, tracking at the scenes throughout the area. Meanwhile, when he discovers a pop bottle, he tells the twins that leaving a bottle out in the sun is a definite risk of a fire hazard. Tatching nearby, Norman and Mandy decide to be trackers like Tom. At the shop, Trevor is buying groceries, and asks Dilys if she wants to go on a date, to which she accepts and goes off to get ready, much to Penny's confusion when she arrives to buy groceries.

At the Mountain Rescue centre, Sarah and James are helping Tom put some water in Wallaby 1, with Tom soon adding some red dye. and teaches the two how red dye can aiming in the right place within a bushfire, with Sarah wondering if there have ever been bushfires in Pontypandy. Back at the store, Trevor reveals to Dilys that they're going bird watching, much to her dismay.

Norman and Mandy try to track down a dingo, but they only see Dusty. As Norman finishes his drink, they go off to find Woolly. But Norman doesn't secure his bag tightly and the pop bottle drops onto the ground with the bright sun reflecting light from the bottle onto a patch of glass. At the hideout, Trevor talks about the many birds he has seen while Dilys tries to learn how to use the binoculars. They hear a bird cry, but it ends up only being Norman being, what Dilys says, a "blummin' nuisance". Trevor tells the two that they're frightening the birds, and the two go off to find Woolly. The fire from the bottle continues to spread.

Norman and Mandy stop and eventually Woolly appears once Norman starts to eat some biscuits. Mandy asks Norman if she can smell smoke, and notice a fire spreading to the hideout that Dilys and Trevor are in. Back at the Mountain Rescue Centre, Sarah and James see the smoke and realise it is from a bushfire and go right away to inform Tom.

Tom calls Sam about the bushfire, and he, Elvis and Penny go off in Jupiter. However, they soon run into trouble when some sharp rocks puncture a tire. Sam asks Penny and Elvis to change the tire while he radios Tom to help out. Mandy and Norman watch Dilys and Trevor cough out of the hideout as it collapses.

Tom sets off in the air to put out the fire through Wallaby 1, while Sam and Penny go off to put out what they can using beaters. While Dilys and Trevor try to recover, Mandy and Norman call out for Tom. He eventually puts out the fire with the red-dyed water - with some ofit splashing on Norman. Sam and Penny pat the remaining batch of flames with a beater.

Sam tells Trevor that he wouldn't be doing any birdwatching for a while, much to Dilys' relief; while Tom tells Norman why it's not a good idea to leave pop bottles in the sun. Penny questions Norman about what happened after she notices the dyed water on him, while Mandy jokingly replies that it's the first time she's seen anyone put out a fire with Tomato Soup. Everyone laughs, as the episode ends.
